Rally Map FAQs

The rally map shows individual boats unlike the member map which groups boats in clusters.

  •   means the boat has been heard from in the last 12 hours and has not moved more than 1 nm.

  • has been heard from in the last 12 hrs and has moved more 1 nm in the last 24 hours

  • has been heard from in the last 24 hours but not in the last 12 hrs.

  • has not been heard from in more than 24 hours.

  • on shoreside watch list

  • on shoreside critical list

The gray line extending from a boat is where it is predicted to be now based on the last reported position, speed and bearing.

The panel at the top of the map can be used to select an atlas or satellite view. It also can show the tracks for all boats. If all tracks are selected, they can be removed by clicking on “Remove tracks”. The starting date for any displayed tracks is set by the date box. The default is the start of the rally. When showing all tracks, an individual boat can be found by clicking on the track, which will open an info box for that boat on the map. When boats reach their destination, they are marked Completed and removed from the map. You can display all boats by clicking on “Show Completed.”

If you left click on a boat, you will get more data on the boat and the track for the boat will be reported:

  • Boat Name

  • Position (deg minutes)

  • hrs since last report (not from the current time, but from when the data was collected)

  • speed and direction at last report

  • length and make

  • Destination based on rally data and distance to destination

  • Length of track in nautical miles (track start date till now)

If “Hide Wind/Speed” is selected. the track of the boat is shown in yellow and is from the starting date specified. The yellow track will remain until a new boat has been selected. If “Show Wind/Speed” is selected, the track will be in different colors to denote the speed of the boat and if there is wind data available via a PredictWind Datahub, wind barbs will be shown. This track will also persist until a new boat is selected.

If you want to find a specific boat, the selector below the map can be used. It will center the map on the selected boat.

With a right click on the map to get location coordinates or measure distances . The coordinates (deg minutes) are where you clicked. If you select "measure distance" it will display a circle you can move and also resize. The radius of the circle in nautical miles is displayed. If you left click in the circle you get a list of boats found inside the circle. Clicking outside the circle or on the X will remove the circle from the map.

The data for the map is updated twice an hour (:00 and :30), so refreshing will not get you new data. The map itself automatically pulls in new position data every 10 minutes, so refreshing is rarely necessary. Tracks however are not automatically refreshed. To refresh tracks when all displayed, use “Remove Tracks”,  and then “Show All Tracks”. To refresh an individual track, click on another boat, then back on the boat of interest.

Overdue Vessels:

If a vessel has not tracked in the last 12 hours, it is reported overdue.. The boat’s rally name and then the number of hours since last reported in. If there is a “NO TRACK INFO”, no track data exists, the location of the boat will be latitude 0, longitude 0.
