MEET THE DAWGS: NEW WINGS: Larry, Terry, Diane and Patti New
Home Port: Lubbock, TX, we know it's landlocked but it's where the four of us met. Diane and Patti were coeds at Texas Tech University and Terry and Larry were in Air Force pilot training at Lubbock, TX. Tell us a little about how you came to own the boat: We have been chartering catamarans for over 15 years in the Caribbean. Larry owned a Leopard 48 before but we had too much competition from young grandkids and other travels to keep it. We went to the Annapolis Boat Show last year and ended up ordering the Leopard 50 as co-owners as of June 2025. Where are you now? After joining the SDSA Caribbean Rally 2025, terminating in Antigua, we plan to continue cruising the Caribbean indefinitely. When did you join the Salty Dawgs? Summer, 2025 Which rallies or rendezvous have you joined? The 2025 Caribbean Rally Most memorable Salty Dawgs moment. It was memorable when we, along with about 40% of the 2025 rally diverted to Bermuda because of weather. It was comforting knowing that there was plenty of support from SDSA that paved the way to get there, be supported there, and depart to get back on track to Antigua. What have you gained from being part of the Salty Dawgs? A lot of camaraderie, and new friends. Any major boat projects currently underway? No, in some ways the boat is better than when we began. We identified problems and fixed many of them along the way. What are your sailing plans for the next 6-12 months? Tentatively to sail the leeward islands with the next hurricane season in Grenada.
