AN UPDATE ON THE SALTY DAWGS APP As the popularity of the Salty Dawg app continues to grow, so does the number of questions about its various functions. To address those questions, I plan to write a monthly article highlighting various features. This month, the focus is on Posts. Most members have used the Message feature extensively, but what about Posts? How are they different from Messages and when should you use Posts instead of a Message? Posts keep information together better than Messages. Whereas Messages are a real-time stream of dialogue, Posts are focused on a topic, which allows others to easily comment and for those comments to be easily seen with the Post. Think of Posts like Facebook and Messages like Messenger or WhatsApp. Posts are not time-sensitive and are quietly delivered, unlike Messages that generate a real-time notification. Use Posts for sharing information where a specific and/or immediate response is not necessary. Posts may be public to all Dawgs or directed to a specific group of which you are a member (even private groups). Groups for Posts are the same groups as in Messages, but joining or leaving a group is done only in the Messaging section. The Posts in your feed include all groups from which you are a member. To narrow the list, use the filter icon to the right of the Post button to select a specific group. Tip: If you want to share information about an anchorage in the Bahamas, Posting to the Bahamas group is the way to go. If you want to invite somebody for sundowners in that anchorage, Messaging is the best tool. Here are the steps to create a Post.
Both Posts and Messages need a search capability which will be coming soon. Got suggestions on other features or thoughts on how to improve the app? Send an email to [email protected] or join the discussion on the app @tech - App View a quick tutorial
