MEET THE DAWGS:  Nikki Layton, Barry Duncan and Zorro the dog

Boat Name and Type: Momentum 42, a Leopard 42

Home Port:  Vancouver BC

Where are you now?:  We are currently in Antigua but heading to Nevis in the near future.

When did you join Salty Dawgs?  We joined the SD in 2021 when we were crew on another vessel that was doing the rally. We picked up our boat in late 2022 and in 2023 we did the Rally on our own boat.

Which rallies and rendezvous have you attended?  We did the Caribbean crossing in Nov 2023 as well as the Dominica Rendevous and the Bequia Rendevous. We also spent time with a bunch of the Dawgs in Martinique during the carnival.

Most memorable Salty Dawg moment:  Extreme Dominica tour during the Dominica Rendevous. We had about 20 dawgs jumping off cliffs into rivers and floating through canyons. A close second was hiking in The Saints with a Dawg pack and having one of the actual dogs take off after a goat and we honestly thought we were going to have to climb down crazy cliffs to rescue TiKi!

What have you gained or hope to gain from being a Salty Dawg?  Community! We did the first 3 months after we got our boat in the Bahamas where we didn't know any other boaters and didn't make that many connections. The Rally down was a great experience and we made so many new friends that we saw in anchorages all through the Caribbean

Any current boat projects?  We are trying to get our inverter fixed for the 2nd time under warranty. We will be in St Martin in a couple of weeks and hopefully, they will have the parts we need.

Sailing Plans for the next year?  We will spend the next 4 months or so cruising around the northern part of the Caribbean, we didn't go north of Antigua at all last year so that is where we want to spend some time in the coming months. We may go as far as Puerto Rico before we turn around and head south for Hurricane season. We are planning to spend a month or so in Grenada before heading to the ABCs for the rest of hurricane season. When we leave the ABCs we haven't decided if we will head north or do the Western Caribbean.
