AN UPDATE ON THE SALTY DAWGS APP

It’s been several months since we launched the new Salty Dawg App and we now have over 600 members who have logged in.  Like any new development, there have been a few rough spots and we appreciate all member suggestions for improvements. The developer is currently working on making the App more responsive and polishing the user interface. We also will enable more features as we transition to using it for some of the website functions. Planned improvements include the ability to search messages, organize group lists, and show more detail when replying to messages in a thread.

Here are a few suggestions on App etiquette:

  1. Consider your audience when you Message or Post. If the subject is Starlink, for example, use the Tech-Offshore Internet group instead of a rally group for the discussion.

  2. Before sending a Message to a group, consider if a Post would be more appropriate. When conveying information about something, a Post is probably the better place. If something needs immediate action, a Message is the right tool. For example, information that Pirates’ Lair is a good anchorage should be a Post. Reaching out to somebody for dinner in Pirates’ Lair would be a Message. Your story and picture about the fish you caught would be a Post.

  3. Avoid creating private parallel groups when there is an existing public group to broaden the discussion among all members.

  4. If you have a great idea for a new public group, let us know.

As always, we welcome and encourage your comments and more importantly encourage you to use the App.  Together we will make the App even better.
