The Dawgs are Spreading their Wings!

For more than a decade, the Salty Dawgs have helped sailors gain blue water experience and to undertake voyages that most only dream about. It is the goal of “sailors helping sailors” that motivates the dozens of volunteers in making The Salty Dawg Sailing Association  (SDSA) the vibrant organization that what it is today.

We are pleased to announce that the SDSA is launching our first trans-Atlantic rally. In June 2025,  we will hold our first “Salty Dawg Rally to the Azores.” This breathtaking archipelago of nine Portuguese islands is the perfect destination to enjoy and then continue east to the Mediterranean or northern Europe.

The rally departure point will be the Caribbean with a potential East Coast departure port – both ports having a stop in Bermuda. Departure from Bermuda will be around June 1st with a target of arriving in the Azores in the middle of June. Similar to the SDSA  fall Caribbean Rally, the Azores Rally will include rally shoreside support by the SDSA, weather routing from Chris Parker and 24/7 medical support from George Washington University.

Given the substantially longer passage time and the limited resources available in the port of Horta, (our landfall in the Azores), participation is capped at 25 boats whose captain and crew have considerable blue water experience. Rally details and participation requirements will be published in the next 30-60 days.

After many years of working with SDSA, I could not be prouder that our organization now has the depth and breadth of talent to undertake something as complex as a rally to Europe. I too am really excited about learning more as our plans develop.
